Milk provides a good source of income, especially for woman pastoralists © CARE/Klavs Bo

CARE Danmark has worked in Niger for more than 25 years supporting nomadic pastoralist to defend their rights to land and natural resources and to develop their business, particularly milk production. Pastoralists are increasingly challenged by climate change, destruction of pastures, illegal sale of pastoral lands to the private sector and CARE Danmark supports the pastoral organisation to influence the institutional and policy environment for the development of pastoralism in Niger and in the sub-region.

Regionally, CARE is working to support a peaceful transboundary transhumance in West Africa in the long term and to improve the nutrition of the coastal and pastoral populations.

In Diffa, CARE Danmark is also supporting children and women, who have fled Nigeria from terrorist attacks.
